Call Now: (509) 317-9009In the year 1905, when irrigation had transformed the arid valley into productive farmland, this community was platted and christened through a naming contest with the aspirational appellation 'Opportunity.' By 1909, it had achieved the distinction of forming its own township government—a rare form of local administration in Washington. The Township Hall, erected in 1912, served as the civic heart of the valley. Though never separately incorporated as a city, instead joining Spokane Valley in 2003, Opportunity possessed all the attributes of a self-contained community: downtown, schools, and governmental apparatus. Today it persists as a neighborhood, its optimistic name a reminder of the hopes that animated its founders.
